We create beautiful structures with visually striking spaces, by designing, engineering and building multiple shipping containers as modular blocks.
In the world of architecture, shipping containers have emerged as a game-changing trend, redefining the way we approach space design and construction. We are at the forefront of shipping container architecture, offering innovative solutions for businesses in search of distinctive and eco-friendly spaces.
Our service offering encompasses a wide range of possibilities, from standalone structures to complex designs comprising multiple containers. Whether you are looking to build a unique office space, a vibrant restaurant, a comfortable accommodation or any other structure, our expertise in container conversion enables us to turn your vision into reality.

Shipping container architecture, also known as ‘cargotecture’, is the art of repurposing shipping containers into functional and visually captivating structures. These steel giants, once used solely for cargo transportation, allow limitless possibilities in construction and architecture.
Containers offer cost-effective and sustainable solutions, minimising construction time while maximising flexibility. What truly sets shipping container architecture apart is its ability to seamlessly blend aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. The inherent strength and durability of containers provide a solid foundation for creating unique spaces that stand the test of time. With their modular nature, containers offer a versatile building block that can be stacked, arranged, and combined to bring any architectural vision to life.

Permit requirements vary by emirate and depend on whether the structure is temporary or permanent. Short-term or pop-up units often require simpler approvals, while permanent or commercial installations typically need municipal building permits, neighbour or landlord approvals, utility clearances, and in some cases, civil defence signoffs.
For permanent buildings, clients must appoint a consultant to prepare drawings in accordance with municipal regulations and submit them for approval. The consultant also assists in obtaining permits from the municipality after fulfilling requirements from relevant authorities, including the electricity and water authority and the civil defence department.
Green Box fully supports the consultant by providing all required specifications, technical drawings, and samples to facilitate the process. We can also prepare and submit drawings on your behalf to help speed approvals.
Thermal comfort is achieved through proper insulation (PU sandwich panels or Rockwool), reflective external coatings, and correctly sized HVAC with ventilation and dehumidification. Design detailing such as thermal breaks, vapour barriers, and raised floors helps reduce heat transfer and condensation.
At Green Box Containers, we design insulation and MEP systems tailored to UAE conditions and to the specific use of the container, whether for offices, F&B outlets, or storage.
Major modifications such as large cut-outs, stacked units, or bridged connections require structural reinforcement with box-section beams, edge framing, or gussets and engineering checks. Each project should undergo a structural assessment with stamped drawings from a qualified engineer.
Green Box provides full engineering calculations and compliance documentation as part of the conversion package.
Site preparation typically requires a level, compacted platform using concrete pads, piers, or structural sleepers. Clear crane or HIAB access and clearance for delivery vehicles must be ensured. Ground-condition surveys and utility routing are recommended early, as missing these steps can delay handover.
Green Box offers site checklists and can coordinate delivery logistics.
Project duration depends on scope. A simple single-unit fit-out may take a few weeks, while multi-unit, engineered, or fully serviced commercial installations can range from several weeks to a few months.
Major cost drivers include container grade (new or used), structural reinforcement, openings/large fenestration, HVAC/MEP complexity, finishes, and approvals. Early scope definition and prefabrication help reduce both timelines and costs.
